Doris Faye Riley McDonald
May 10, 1956 – April 15, 2021
Doris Faye Riley McDonald was the wife of Pastor James Lee McDonald for over 47 years and together raised 3 daughters. Sis. Mac aka Momma D, as she was affectionately known, was a complex woman full of humor and seriousness; love and compassion; tenderness and hardness; beauty and passion, kindness and prickliness; strength and power.
As Sis. Mac would say, she’s a straight shooter and a bottom-line kind of girl. She was a devout and practicing believer, a dedicated mother, a loving wife, a doting grandmother who believed her beloved grandchildren were "absolutely perfect". Sis. Mac was a staunch advocate for her family, a caring sister, aunt, and cousin; an anointed teacher, an avid reader, a world traveler, and sea-loving cruiser, and a well-educated entrepreneur. She was highly intelligent and extremely articulate. Her heart was big and her love and support of her family even bigger. Now if you messed with her children or grandchildren, watch out because she would have it in for you and would not easily forget what you said or did. By the same token, if you loved on her kids and grandkids, she would be grateful and would not forget that either.
Doris Faye Riley McDonald is the daughter of Mr. Jack and Mrs. Velma Riley (Sutton) of Silsbee, Texas. She was the youngest of her 10 siblings. She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Pastor James Lee McDonald of Katy, Texas; daughters Na'Cole Thompson of Leander Texas, Elizabeth McDonald of Houston, Texas and Jennifer Moulton of Arlington Texas; Son-in-Laws Cerwin Thompson and Alex Moulton; her 8 truly beloved grandchildren Ashley Thompson, Gabrielle McDonald, Jaylen Thompson, Jazmine McDonald, Jordan Thompson, Jeremiah Peeples, Briana McDonald, and Joshua Moulton; her older brother Fred Riley of Houston, Texas, her bonus daughter Chandra Hicks of Hutto, Texas; her nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and a host of other family and friends.
Sis. Mac met the love of her life at Prairie View A & M and the rest is history. In 1975, two years after their first meeting, James and Doris were married in Austin Texas. They later welcomed 3 girls to their family - Na'Cole in 1977, Elizabeth in 1980, and Jennifer in 1982. Sis. Mac made it her mission to educate and raise her children in the admonition of the Lord. Her goal was to instill faith in God that would sustain her children and grandchildren through every experience life may bring and she has done just that. Sis. Mac was a great supporter of her husband and the ministry of Christ through her work at Holman Street and other churches. She was a leader and a mentor to many young women taking them under her wing to encourage and teach them a more excellent way to live and love. Sis. Mac was involved in various women’s, evangelism, youth, and marriage ministries. She was most recently the backbone of the Damascus Road Christian Church in Cedar Park, Texas, and the Kids Helping Kids of Texas non-profit organization.
Sis. Mac enjoyed cooking and was even once invited to try out for the national TV show Top Chef. For many years, she established and operated a very successful catering company in Austin Texas. She also founded the Williamson County African American Chamber of Commerce. Alongside her entrepreneurial endeavors, she always had a desire to further her education. Between the ages of 40-50, while enduring many medical setbacks and surgeries, she earned her undergraduate and master’s degree from Texas State University. Her motto was “if I can do it, you have no excuse why you can’t do it.”
Sis. Mac's life has not been without pain, strife, and physical turmoil. At the age of 28, she was diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis after many months of incorrect treatments and misdiagnosis. She has endured and survived being bedridden for a year, losing her voice for<
