Luna Scholars and Fellows Program

In 2001, the Senate Hispanic Research Council (SHRC) created the Senator Gregory Luna Legislative Scholars and Fellows Program. The program honors the legacy of Senator Luna by creating educational and professional development opportunities in the Senate for college students from across the State.

Through the program, SHRC has paved a pathway for remarkable students to gain legislative experience, hone their public policy interests, and enhance their leadership and professional skills. Our participants have excelled in their Senate placements during previous legislative sessions and have gone on to pursue careers in government, law, education, civics, and other leadership arenas where bright young candidates are needed around our state. By developing a pipeline of well-prepared and civically engaged leaders, the program has not only transformed the lives of participants but has made a positive impact on communities across Texas.

We are extremely proud of the profound impact the program has accomplished in shaping the future leaders of Texas. Even though COVID-19 has changed the way we work, the SHRC remains dedicated to ensuring a rewarding opportunity for these emerging leaders and committed to elevating and empowering them with invaluable learning opportunities.
