Sukyi McMahon's message - Last summer, the reimagine public safety movement launched here in Austin, and the narrative around how we address our community's safety concerns dramatically changed. A comprehensive approach to public safety has been our shared vision, and now that vision, which includes more ambulances, firefighters, 911 call takers, parks, animal shelters, violence prevention, family violence shelters, and youth programs, is at risk. A fringe right wing organization has placed a misleading item called Proposition A on this November’s ballot. They say their item is about safety, but that’s far from true. Their fiscally disastrous proposal is to funnel hundreds of millions of dollars into the police department with zero accountability – at the expense of all our other city services. That is why the No Way On Prop A campaign is one of the broadest coalitions I’ve ever seen in Austin. Over 80 local organizations are against Prop A including Austin Justice Coalition, the Sierra Club, the Travis County Democratic Party, ACLU Texas, and the Central Labor Council. We need your help to expose the truth about Prop A and the extreme harm it would cause. Please support our coalition and our campaign by donating HERE. A donation of $20, $30, $50, or any amount will help us talk with more voters about this harmful ballot measure. Early voting begins on October 18th and Election Day is November 2nd. Prop A will hurt our safety. Instead of slashing our community’s services, we should invest in accountable public safety and put resources into our neighborhoods in most need. Please join us in saying NO WAY to this reckless proposition in November.
