Students need to be able to concentrate on their studies and other school activities -- not how to pay for lunch or for library fines. Starting in 2017, Texas public schools (K-12) face reduced state funding with the death of HB21, which was not passed when a provision was added, allowing distribution of limited state dollars to private as well as public schools. This reduction in funding has meant some students in our local public schools who once qualified for no-cost lunches no longer do. However, these students' nutritional and economic situations have not changed -- school funding has. Local groups such as the Kiwanis often donate to cover some of these expenses for students. Cooke County Democrats are joining in this campaign.
Help us cover these 2017 costs for our local school districts and our public school students. Become a Christmas Angel and donate to our School Lunch and Library fund. We are working with Superintendents to give donations where they will best help Cooke County school children (elementary through high school).
This project needs $2500 to cover all outstanding costs in our school districts. These donations to each district are anonymous. We do not wish to politicize our public schools but to alleviate pressure on students who need this basic financial assistance.
