• Former AISD Board Secretary & Calendar Committee Chair

• The only AISD trustee designated a Master Trustee by the Texas Association of School Boards
• Member of the Board of Directors of the Texas Association of School Boards
• Mentor with the Seedling Foundation and tutor with Austin Partners in Education at both District 2 middle schools
• Member & major supporter of all District 2 Parent-Teacher Associations

 LEADERSHIP: What has Dr. Mathias done?

• Reversed the privatization of Austin’s public schools
• Hosted tours & community conversations at all 20 District 2 schools
• Pushed Austin to become the second ISD in Texas to offer benefits for same-sex teachers, staff members & administrators
• Advocated for continuous raises for AISD employees, despite budget restraints
• Helped craft the District’s first balanced budget in years
• Pushed for the District’s first studies on inequities in business practices & student achievement outcomes
• Hired the District’s first-ever Hispanic superintendent
• Led the drafting of the RFP that led to the turnaround of Eastside Memorial High School after 12 years of underperformance
• Convened community elected officials, community leaders & safety specialists to address District 2 safety concerns
• Helped lead efforts to pass $490M in bonds for AISD students & schools
• Honored the will of voters in 2008 by purchasing land for a high school in Southeast Austin
• Raised scholarships for graduates of all five high schools to which District 2 students are tracked
• Raised funds to benefit the PTAs of all 20 District 2 schools
• Lowered the AISD tax rate two years in a row
• Raised the AISD minimum wage to $11.25 in 2013
