Sandra Blankenship for WCID #1

My name is Sandra Blankenship, and I'm running to represent you on the board of Bell County Water Control & Improvement District No. 1. I'm a military spouse, a retired nurse, and a Killeen resident of 24 years. I was born to parents who worked our family farm, and my father worked in law enforcement. Growing up poor meant we grew our own food and had little to spare. Very early in my life, I understood the importance of hard work, perseverance, and family.

Like many of us in Killeen, I moved here as a military spouse in 1995, and have since been proud to call Killeen my home. I am a graduate of Central Texas College, and I built my career as a nurse here. After retiring from nursing in pediatric home health, I became active in our community, working as an advocate for women and underrepresented members of our community. As a Master Gardener, I participated in a program that grows food for the homeless, and I have been an officer in LULAC. As an advocate, I have gotten to know many of our neighbors.

Water is a finite resource and we need to ensure that we are managing it properly for our economic development. Currently, Killeen citizens and businesses are extremely limited in their ability to have a say on how their water is managed and that is something Killeen needs to work to reverse. I'm running because I want to ensure that Killeen has continued access to the one resource we all need: water.
