I’m Selena Xie. I’m an EMS Commander, labor leader, and nurse running for Austin City Council District 8.

As a paramedic, I know that improvements to our transportation infrastructure are a matter of life and death. I know the importance of response times, whether it's for an emergency or constituent services. And I understand the frustration of inaction by City leadership. Just this year, Austin-Travis County EMS has had to shut down five ambulances due to lack of resources from the City Council.

As President of the Austin-Travis County EMS Association, I fought for our paramedics through the pandemic, ice storms, and the opioid epidemic.  I negotiated the long-term contract with the City of Austin that brought EMS workers an all-time high wage increase, paternity leave, and retention bonuses.

As a frontline worker, I don’t work from home - and I don’t think our City Council should either. On council, I will bring the same energy to improving public safety, infrastructure, the environment, constituent services, and citizen communication to District 8 that I brought as EMS Association President. I’ve driven every street in District 8 in an ambulance- and I know we can do better for the people who I’ve been proud to serve.
