Daniel Ayala for PEC Board of Directors, D7

Have you ever thought, “I wish my electric bill wasn’t so high?” I’m sure many of us have, and that’s why I’m pleased to introduce myself!

My name is Daniel Ayala, and I am running for the Pedernales Electric Cooperative (PEC) Board of Directors, District 7 in Hays County, Texas.

What does this mean and why is it important?

The Pedernales Electric Cooperative is the largest electric utility cooperative of our Texas electricity grid, and the largest in the country. The Board of Directors makes decisions that affect thousands of customers and workers everyday—decisions that have the potential to save lives.

In 2021, Winter Storm Uri hit Texas and caused our entire electrical grid to fail. Many were left freezing with no access to electricity, water, or assistance. 246 Texans died because of the failure of our legislature to weatherize our grid. However, this doesn’t prohibit PEC from being proactive.

It is now 2024, and PEC has not weatherized their systems, yet they continue to raise rates. This is unacceptable.

I have 3 goals to accomplish as a Board Member:

  • Weatherize and hybridize our systems
  • Lower electricity rates by making smart investments and taking advantage of federal tax breaks
  • Champion good worker policies to protect the frontline workers that take care of us when we need them most

What is my experience?

I have a wide range of experience that will expand our Board’s portfolio of knowledge! I am a proud graduate of Texas State University with a Bachelor of Science in Wildlife Biology who has a passion for environmental conservation and sustainability. Additionally, I have a degree in Business Administration that allowed me to better run my family’s small business—and I plan to use those skills in effectively and efficiently managing your dollars!

Other experience includes:

  • Vice-Chair of the Executive Board for the Hays CISD DAC
  • Current Vice President of the Texas Environmental Caucus
  • Prior Regional Finalist for the prestigious White House Fellows Program

I have the acumen to make the decisions necessary to keep our energy costs low while protecting the interests of all stakeholders.

Our weather is unpredictable enough, your electric company doesn’t have to be.
