I want to thank everyone for their tremendous support these past few days in helping us meet our first fundraising goal. Your $5 and $10 and $20 donations are the reason you'll see my name on the ballot in March. Now that we've cleared that hurdle, we have another: my campaign needs $1,000 to gain access to VAN, the service that allows us to contact voters directly and begin the hard work of the campaign. I want to thank all of my supporters and everyone that's helped my campaign thus far!
Why am I running?
•I believe the voices of every-day West Texans have been marginalized, and we need real representation for Odessa in Austin. We're not wealthy business owners with advanced degrees, we are real families that learn from hard work every single day, who hold down multiple jobs but are still struggling to make ends meet. If we want wholly representative change, we've got to start talking, marching and running like we mean it. Odessa is not just a remote spot at the edge of the map, we experience the same highs and lows of the Texas economy, we see hospitals and schools struggling to stay open, we see jobs and homes lost every day while Greg Abbott and Dan Patrick play culture wars. Texas is a land of diversity and opportunity both, and I am not just going to stand at the sidelines while children like my niece are presented with more roadblocks to public and higher education than they are tools for success. Our children should be encouraged and empowered to reach for the horizon, otherwise what are we working for?
I will make it my task to enforce and preserve the protections and civil rights of all Texans—regardless of race, sexual orientation, or socioeconomic status—and adequately representative them.
