My name is Laura Marquez and I'm running as a proud Democrat to represent District 1 on the Texas State Board of Education. I am a life-long resident of the border region and a product of Ysleta ISD schools, where my three young children attend today. I am a first-generation alumna of the University of Texas at El Paso and proud to serve my community through my work in non-profit.
In times that are ever evolving, there is one thing that remains constant: Our future is in the hands of our youngest generation. It is more important than ever to fight for access to quality, equitable, and inclusive public education for ALL students. I am answering the call and hoping you will support me in this effort.
Performing this work with integrity means we must center the voices of students, educators, parents, and community members at every opportunity. I pledge to use my background and experience as a parent, community advocate, and community educator to ensure that public education stakeholders from District 1 border and rural communities are fully represented on the State Board of Education.
I would be honored if you joined our campaign for an equitable and inclusive public education system in Texas. We are going to need your donations and support to reach every valued voice in SBOE District 1 – 900 miles from El Paso all the way to Zapata County! It will not be easy, but WE can do it! Together we can make Texas Education the gold standard our students and educators deserve.
In solidarity,
Laura
