Mutual Aid Program - Killeen

Our Greater Killeen Community was hit HARD by this unprecedented storm of the century. While we're through the worst of the storm itself, many families are still struggling with the aftermath. Many homes are still without drinkable water or transportation to access it, others lost a great deal of food and work hours and are having a hard time putting food on the table, others suffered damages to their homes and vehicles. This has truly been a crisis of great proportions.

This Mutual Aid Program (MAP) was pulled together by a group of Non-Profit leaders wishing to help triage and coordinate those with unmet critical needs and link them to community members with resources. During the storm, we are helped put families in freezing conditions in homes with extra rooms and warming centers, and we delivered drinkable water to over 1,000 city residents, by matching up people who need drinking water to those who have vehicles that could traverse the roads and deliver. The numbers in need have thankfully decreased from last Monday, but we are still committed to helping our community help each other through this recovery effort.

Much of this doesn't cost money, it's a labor of love, time, and community. We are putting this together as Neighbors Helping Neighbors. But, our volunteers have bought thousands of dollars of water and food to deliver, as well as their gas expenses prior to larger entities showing up. We would very much like to be able to cover their out-of-pocket expenses and be able to maintain a Mutual Aid Fund to assist in covering similar expenses going forward. Any amount you can contribute will be dispersed with great care directly to those who need it. None will go to any agency for their overhead expenses or salaries.

Thank you, from the bottom of our hearts!
